We are excited to advertise a New Substantive Consultant Orthopaedic post within The Trauma and Orthopaedic Directorate at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a dynamic engaged candidate to be appointed as Substantive Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma surgeon, with a specialist interest in lower limb hip & knee arthroplasty, revision hip surgery, and to help with the management of periprosthetic fractures.

This post has a 10PA job plan and on-call commitment to a 1 in 12 rota.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to provide:

  • A high quality elective arthroplasty and revision service, including MDT
  • A high quality trauma service, including managing the oncall week, operating/clinics/oncalls.
  • Effective/ efficient working to improve the overall efficiency and financial viability of the service
  • A reduction in the referral to treatment time for patients
  • Teaching/ support to Residents and Medical Students
  • Support for local/ National audit

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration (with licence to practice)
  • CCT Specialist Registration or will obtain within 6 months of interview date.
  • CESR
  • Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), IELTS or graduate of a UK Medical School.
  • ATLS / APLS / ALS
Desirable criteria
  • Distinctions, scholarships, prizes
  • Other degrees, e.g. BSc, MSc, MD
  • At least three years in Higher Training in hip or knee subspecialty

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Ability to prioritise clinical need
  • Ability to supervise multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of the department.
  • Ability to demonstrate familiarity with and understanding of NHS structures, management and current political issues, including awareness of national strategic plans and constraints.
  • Ability to demonstrate willingness to lead clinical teams and develop an effective specialist clinical service.
  • Experience of Audit and Management
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of innovative development and implementation of guidance
