We are excited to advertise a substantive consultant post within the Trauma and Orthopaedic directorate at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic candidate with a subspecialist interest in foot and ankle surgery who is passionate about delivering high quality care.

This post has a 10 PA job plan and the successful candidate will be required to contribute to a 1 in 12 on call rota.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to provide:

• A high quality elective service across the breadth of foot and ankle surgery
• A high quality trauma service, including managing the on call week, trauma meetings, acute trauma operating and virtual and face to face fracture clinics
• Involvement in local and regional MDT
• Innovative working to improve the overall efficiency and financial viability of the service
• Teaching/support to resident doctors, medical students and AHPs
• Support for local/national audit and involvement in quality improvement projects

Person specification

Qualifications

• Full GMC Registration (with licence to practice).
• Fellowship training in foot and ankle
• CCT Specialist Registration or will obtain within 6 months of interview date.
• CESR.
• Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), IELTS or graduate of a UK Medical School.
• ATLS / APLS / ALS.

• Distinctions, scholarships, prizes.
• Other degrees, e.g. BSc, MSc, MD.
• At least three years in Higher Training in foot and ankle subspecialty.

Knowledge

• Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems.
• Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
• Ability to prioritise clinical need.
• Ability to supervise multi-disciplinary teams.
• Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of the department.
• Ability to demonstrate familiarity with and understanding of NHS structures, management and current political issues, including awareness of national strategic plans and constraints.
• Ability to demonstrate willingness to lead clinical teams and develop an effective specialist clinical service.
• Experience of Audit and Management.

• Evidence of innovative development and implementation of guidance.
