We are excited to advertise a substantive consultant post within the Trauma and Orthopaedic directorate at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic candidate with a subspecialist interest in foot and ankle surgery who is passionate about delivering high quality care.
This post has a 10 PA job plan and the successful candidate will be required to contribute to a 1 in 12 on call rota.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to provide:
- A high quality elective service across the breadth of foot and ankle surgery
- A high quality trauma service, including managing the on call week, trauma meetings, acute trauma operating and virtual and face to face fracture clinics
- Involvement in local and regional MDT
- Innovative working to improve the overall efficiency and financial viability of the service
- Teaching/support to resident doctors, medical students and AHPs
- Support for local/national audit and involvement in quality improvement projects

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Full GMC Registration (with licence to practice).
- Fellowship training in foot and ankle
- CCT Specialist Registration or will obtain within 6 months of interview date.
- CESR.
- Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), IELTS or graduate of a UK Medical School.
- ATLS / APLS / ALS.
- Distinctions, scholarships, prizes.
- Other degrees, e.g. BSc, MSc, MD.
- At least three years in Higher Training in foot and ankle subspecialty.
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
- Ability to prioritise clinical need.
- Ability to supervise multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of the department.
- Ability to demonstrate familiarity with and understanding of NHS structures, management and current political issues, including awareness of national strategic plans and constraints.
- Ability to demonstrate willingness to lead clinical teams and develop an effective specialist clinical service.
- Experience of Audit and Management.
- Evidence of innovative development and implementation of guidance.
