Job overview
We are looking to appoint an experienced and passionate echocardiographer to support the service leads. The role will be 100% based in echocardiography and will be a mix of practical scanning of both inpatients and outpatients; supporting trainee echocardiographers and quality assurance activities including audits and service evaluation working across all trust sites.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be expected to engage in all areas of echocardiography In addition, supporting the service lead to ensure compliance with departmental accreditation quality assurance programme is fundamental by engaging in activities to comply with the echo quality framework.
The department is passionate about providing the best possible service for our patients by advocating for high quality, evidence based practice. The team are consistently commended for the quality training provided to physiologists and medics and we would like to continue to develop our training offering.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
A highly motivated echocardiographer with a passion for echocardiography would be the ideal candidate forthis role.
Our department is expanding and there are increasing needs to extend our training capability in the department and the wider trust.
The post-holder will be expected to partake in all aspects of transthoracic echocardiography and be able to independently scan and write comprehensive reports according to the British Society of Echocardiography minimum dataset and accompanying pathology guidelines.
Mentoring candidates undertaking society exams will be a fundamental part of this role as well as acting as a role model for high standard of echocardiography practice.Each trainee echocardiographer is assigned a supervisor who is responsible for ensuring that training is progressed and there is adequate support for that trainee including signing off logbooks, DOPS, training lists
are booked appropriately.
All echo slots at WHH are a minimum of 45 minutes, with a minimum of 60-minute slots assigned for
unaccredited/newly accredited echocardiographers. There is a monthly echo teaching session that lasts 1 hour
plus weekly drop in sessions to discuss interesting/discordant scans

Essential criteria- BSC in Clinical Physiology or equivalent training
- Training/Teaching qualification
Experience
Essential criteria- Achieved training programme / experience
- Working towards AHCS / HCPC accreditation
Skills, Knowledge and Competencies
Essential criteria- Competent in recording and interpreting transthoracic echo
- Competent in assisting in transoesophageal echo
Mental Effort
Essential criteria- Able to concentrate on complex tasks for extended periods of time
- Able to make decisions independantly.
