Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision (Liverpool)

A secondary alternative provision school in Liverpool is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to students with special educational needs, some of whom may display challenging behaviour. The school is committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students who have faced difficulties in mainstream settings, helping them stay engaged and motivated.
  • Use your experience in PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) or similar environments to manage and respond effectively to challenging behaviour.
  • Apply trauma-informed approaches to support students with sensitivity and understanding.
  • De-escalate challenging situations calmly and professionally.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to help them feel comfortable in their learning environment.
  • Work closely with teachers and other staff to ensure the best possible support for each student.
  • Assist in creating and delivering individualized learning plans tailored to student needs.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged students in PRU, alternative provision, or similar settings.
  • A strong understanding of the challenges faced by students with behavioural difficulties and past trauma.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students and staff.
  • The ability to use initiative, remain adaptable, and respond to students’ individual needs.
  • Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude towards overcoming challenges.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
