We are seeking an additional highly motivated and talented MR radiographerto join the imaging team at the Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research (OCMR). We are looking for someone who will enjoy working in a cutting-edge clinical research environment performing advanced MRI research techniques (cardiac, liver and neuro), and actively participate for the clinical cardiac MR service as part of a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, researchers, radiographers, nurses and physicists.

You will primarily assist in the provision of a safe, efficient, effective and flexible MR scanning service for the cardiovascular, liver and neuro-imaging research protocols within OCMR. You will be expected to deliver a high standard of imaging and patient care; assist in protocol development and set up (both hardware and software aspects) and help provide training and supervision of the imaging aspects of the unit.

You will work with and be supported by the lead radiographer and the imaging team.

To work effectively as part of the MRI team, providing a comprehensive and diagnostic imaging service, carrying out specific responsibilities commensurate with the grade. To independently assess each patient and adapt techniques according to the needs of the patient.

To contribute to the working environment in which patients can obtain optimum care. Receiving visitors/patients/volunteers to OCMR ensuring safety requirements are met. To be responsible in the use of expensive diagnostic imaging equipment to ensure that the patient, carers, relatives and operator remain safe from the physical hazards and those associated with a high field strength magnet.

The cardiology department at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford is one of the major providers of cardiac care within South East England. We are a busy, friendly department and are seeking a senior radiographer to support the clinical cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) service.
We act as a reference centre for CMR, and provide regional cardiomyopathy, stress perfusion and congenital heart disease services. The post is based in the University of Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research (OCMR), and you will be an integral part of a dynamic team in this world renowned CMR centre, which provides a tertiary centre service for the John Radcliffe and many surrounding hospitals.

There may an opportunity to support one of the many imaging research projects undertaken in the unit, and further study may also be possible.

You will be an experienced radiographer with previous experience of either magnetic resonance imaging or other cardiac imaging modality. Experience in CMR is desirable but not essential and training will be provided where necessary.

Informal visits to the unit are strongly encouraged.
  • Provide a high quality MRI imaging service to OCMR for cardiovascular, liver and neuro-imaging research and support the clinical CMR service where appropriate.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all patients, research participants and normal volunteers undergoing imaging.
  • Use OCMR's online booking system tomanage the schedule for the scanners.
  • Implementing, in accordance with OCMR and OUH policies, effective safe working procedures that are reviewed on a periodic basis, and supporting the development of OCMR policies-and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Train new/existing staff using the facility regarding magnet safety and the emergency procedures within OCMR.
  • Support OCMR staff in the maintenance and safe use of any ancillary equipment such as MRE, injectors, physiological monitoring, button response boxes used for fMRI and projectors.
