The post holder is directly responsible to the Head of Service (Logistics and Supply Chain) and will be responsible for managing Logistics and Supply Business Improvement Initiatives and Projects in conjunction with the Head of Service.

The post holder will lead a team of logistics staff across One Lancashire & South Cumbria. Key responsibilities include validating business processes, providing operational procedures for training and development, develop efficiency opportunities from current processes, measure/monitor implemented savings and costs of deployment, share system enhancements and knowledge as well as good or new business practices whilst removing poor practice across the Trust.

The post holder will be expected to work at a strategic level with stakeholders across multiple NHS Trusts within One LSC.

Main duties of the job

This is a pivotal role within the Logistics and Supply Chain structure, with responsibility for the rollout of Scan 4 Safety across three main hospital sites, commencing at Westmorland General Hospital.

The role will:

  • Support the Head of Service in the development and delivery of the Logistics and Supply Chain business services.
  • Ensure all resources are primarily focussed on delivering efficient processes and systems including the forecast and delivery of savings targets, process improvements, service re-design, improved outcomes and operational productivity.
  • Support the delivery of a logistics and supply chain service which meets the needs of customers and progressively achieves efficiency savings for the One LSC. To be achieved by working closely with partner Trusts to improve existing systems and providing demonstrable value for money improvements to Trusts.
  • Map and analyse processes and identify ways to reduce waste, improve work flow, and otherwise increase efficiency/productivity.
  • Responsible for the identification and articulation of agreed base line position, set quantifiable measures of improvement, particularly with reference to reducing cost and improving efficiency and demonstrate that these have been delivered.
  • Responsible for documentation of processes, instructions, recommendations, and key metrics.

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education & Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Logistics professional qualification (Degree / Masters or equivalent) or substantial experience of working within a logistics and supply chain environment at a senior level.
  • Continued professional development to improve and update specialist knowledge.
  • Qualification or relevant experience in supply chain engineering or TQM experience
Desirable criteria
  • Project Management qualification (eg) Prince 2 or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant management experience in a Logistics and Supply Chain environment
  • Extensive lean principle knowledge and a proven track record of using these to implement change improvements.
  • Experience of Inventory Management systems, deployment, maintenance, management
  • Proven track record of managing, developing and leading staff within a fast moving environment.
Desirable criteria
  • Significant experience of working in senior role responsible for Business Improvement in a Supply Chain and Logistics environment
  • Experience of working in other public and private sector organisations

  • IT literate with well-developed system skills.
  • Manage relationships to enable effective partnering with senior stakeholder internal customers and suppliers

Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary.
