Job overview

This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic senior clinical research nurse to join the Peart Rose Research Team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

The primary focus is managing a portfolio of vascular research projects while leading the clinical research team to ensure high-quality research delivery. The successful candidate will oversee nurses and practitioners, ensuring projects run smoothly and effectively.

Strong teamwork is essential, with close collaboration across clinical trials and multidisciplinary teams.

A thorough understanding of vascular research and patient pathways is key to expanding and delivering the team's portfolio. The role also includes study setup, accurate costings, and facilitating local approvals. Financial expertise is vital for budgetary oversight, ensuring accurate invoicing and appropriate income allocation.

The candidate will also support NIHR reporting, maintaining local databases and aligning data with external sources.

The ideal candidate is a visible leader with strong engagement skills. Excellent communication is required to build relationships across NHS Trusts, Imperial College London, sponsors, and commercial organisations. Initiative and independence are highly valued.

Main duties of the job
  • The Research Team Leader has a key management role in the delivery of the operational aspects of research trials, providing management expertise and input to ensure the timely delivery of the growing portfolio of studies undertaken within Imperial while ensuring the needs of patient care are based at the centre of delivery.
  • The post holder will have operational oversight of one or more speciality research delivery teams, including line managing research nurses/practitioners and/or associates and will support the effective use of infrastructure and resources.
  • The postholder supports the aims of the Trust to improve the speed, quality, and integration of clinical research, through the successful delivery of clinical research in the NHS.
  • The post holder is a recognised expert in one or more specialities and in the field of clinical research, providing advice, care and support to patients entering clinical trials. He/she will take responsibility for the planning, development and implementation of the clinical research portfolio that reflects the patient population, the work and interests of the local clinical teams. You will provide expert support to colleagues and staff through the research study process, from grant application, to feasibility, to clinical pathways, to study delivery

Essential criteria
  • NMC registration
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Project management qualification or experience
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent clinical experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant clinical and research experience at Band 6 in vascular sciences.
  • Experience in informed consent process and coordinating multiple studies
  • Proven clinical research experience & knowledge in Research Governance Framework and ICH GCP
  • Experience of supervision and line management of staff
  • Experience in the consent process for patients entering clinical trials
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of grant application process
  • Understanding of National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), its values, aims and structure
