We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward thinking Specialist Sedation Dental Nurses to join the Paediatric team at Birmingham Dental Hospital on a Substantive Basis.

The Paediatric department provides a multitude of treatment to including dental extractions and restorative dental treatment under local anaesthetic, inhalation sedation and intravenous sedation.

The post-holder must hold a post qualification certificate in conscious sedation, be up to date with training and able to supply a copy of their CPD and sedation log.

The post-holder must be flexible as travel to other sites/locations within the division may be required and may able be asked to support evening and weekend activity.

We are looking to recruit to x2 part time posts as detailed below:

Post 1: 0.6WTE (3 days) Monday, Wednesday and Friday (Certificate in Inhalation Sedation required as a minimum)

Post 2: 0.4WTE (2days) Wednesday and Friday (Inhalation Sedation and IV Sedation Required)

The Post Holder will support the clinical management of the dental specialty and ensure the provision of a high standard of patient care and that all Trust policies and procedures are adhered to.

Delivery of high-quality clinical nursing support for the specialties across Dental Services Division clinical sites to respond to the complex needs of the patients that meet the specialty criteria.

Main duties of the job

Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service and manage patients with complex dental, social and medical needs

Stock control/rotation and the ordering of dental consumables as required from appropriate suppliers.

Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste including bodily fluids.

Support recording of patient pre-operative assessments. E.g. height weight and blood pressure

Carry out any other duties relevant to this role specified by the Dental Nurse Manager and/or Dental Nurse Tutor(s)

Provide clinical nursing support for sedation within the department to support the clinical patient pathway.

Identify relevant staff & student who require additional training within the specialty & escalate as appropriate

Support the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, School of Hygiene and Therapy and relevant Heads of Service to provide team training for all disciplines.

Adhere to procedures to support and maintaining achieving national targets of compliance.

Ensure to implement agreed, local Divisional and Trust Policies.

Implement outcomes in respect of Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement relating to the specialty.

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • Dental Nursing Qualification
  • Post Qualification in Sedation (IH/IV/Both)
  • GDC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised Teaching Qualification at Level 3 or Equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant Experience in Specialism
  • Significant Experience in a wide range of dentistry
  • Significant evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership/Management Experience
  • Clinical Audit/QSIR Experience
  • Evidence informal and formal assessment experience

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence understanding of clinical stock management
  • Evidence of ability to lead a team in a clinical environment
  • Evidence of dealing with complex situations e.g. patient complaints/concerns
  • Adaptable and responsive to change
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to create & deliver training materials etc Power Point Presentations/Tutorials
