Specialty Doctor - Emergency Medicine
We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, focused and forward-thinking Specialty Doctors to join our highly supportive Emergency Department based in Withybush General Hospital.
Our flexible Specialty Doctor posts are within Emergency Medicine in a friendly semi-rural Emergency Department. Withybush General Hospital is a modern District General Hospital containing 195 inpatient beds, situated one mile from the centre of Haverfordwest.
Main duties of the job
The Emergency Department consists of four resuscitation bays, X-ray, plaster room and treatment rooms giving immediate access to primary medical and surgical assessment treatment and care. It provides care for the people of Pembrokeshire and adjacent parts of Carmarthenshire and Cardiganshire in an environment that permits sufficient time for rewarding interaction between staff and patients, yet also provides appropriate experience of high quality emergency medicine.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:
- Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;

- 48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
- Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
- Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
- ATLS/PALS/ALS
- 4 years full-time postgraduate training (or part-time equivalent), at least 2 of which in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty Or as fixed term specialty trainee in a relelvant specialty OR Equivalent experience/competencies
- MCEM
- MBBS
- MRCS 1 or MRCP 1
- APLS
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria- Broad based experience in Emergency
- Knowledge and participation in CPD
- Experience of the NHS
- Safe and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Experience of the assessment of emergencies
- Additional clinical qualification(s)
Clinical Governance
Essential criteria- Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice

Research
