Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Haematologist with an interest in lymphoma and General Haematology to join the team at Withybush General hospital. With a newly developed job plan for this position, offering a dynamic and rewarding role, we welcome all applicants to apply.We are looking for a highly committed and motivated individual to join our Haematology team as we start to introduce subspecialisation into the health board. Our dedicated and forward-looking team of 7 consultants provide a comprehensive haematology service in the four hospitals in an area of outstanding beauty.
This post will introduce a Lymphoma subspecialty to our team as part of a redesign of haematology services across the Health Board and will continue to develop as part of the wider transformation process. Support for the post includes Associate Specialists, Specialty Doctors, Clinical Fellow as well as foundation Trainees.
The team also includes Haematology CNS team and Specialist pharmacists.
Our staff are at the heart of the quality of our service and are looking to add to our numbers. We are looking for someone to bring additional expertise and a passion to provide excellence.
Main duties of the job
The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.- The appointee is required to be GMC registered on the specialist register or be expected to obtain CCT within 6 months.
- The appointee will contribute to all aspects of the general haematology and haemo-oncology work including participation in departmental meetings and on-call rota.
- 10 Sessions with 20% non-clinical work (SPA) per week within job plan
- Clinics in other hospital sites will be required (virtual clinics are an option).
- The appointee must be someone who can help develop our rural service to ensure excellent patient care
Working for our organisation
Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical - The appointee should be able to demonstrate experience in the management of Lymphoma and General Haematology. The successful candidate will develop this subspecialty across the health board and working alongside the generalist consultants.
Inpatients - The appointee will participate in an attending and on-call rota for the Haverfordwest site. At the three peripheral sites, the contribution is consultative to the local medical team.
Outpatients - The appointee will be expected to participate in 3-4 clinics per week, within Lymphoma and General Haematology. Consideration for other subspecialist workload could be considered, depending on applicant’s experience to date.
There is a weekly health board wide MDT and opportunities to join other MDTs from all Wales MDTs.

Person specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria- Full registration and a License to Practice with the General Medical Council.
- On the GMC Specialist Register (including via Portfolio Pathway (CESR)/European Community Rights) or will have CCT due within six months of interview date.
- Valid Certified Advanced Life Support.
- Where a sub-specialty interest is required sub-specialty training should be to a level appropriate for UK consultant sub-specialist practice - fellowship or equivalent level experience.
- Additional Higher qualification(s).
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria- Broad based experience within the specialty area.
- Able to demonstrate core competencies and clinical skills relevant to the post.
- Experience of leading a team.
- Previous experience working in the UK or NHS.
Clinical Governance

- Participation in clinical audit (or quality improvement project) and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice.
