Research Nurse/Paramedic Senior Human Studies Technical Specialist (Part time)
Applications are invited for a Senior Human Studies Technical Specialist (acute nursing or paramedic qualifications and experience essential). This permanent role will be based in human exercise and metabolic physiology, within the David Greenfield Human Physiology Unit, Division of Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience, School of Life Sciences, University of Nottingham.
The successful candidate will be based in the Medical School at Queen’s Medical Centre and will support academic research within the group, across multiple studies which will include acute and chronic interventions. They will work alongside clinical colleagues, and independently, to promote the health and well-being of the participant during research protocols.The role holder will provide advanced expertise in clinical and human physiology monitoring and assessment techniques, plus support the organising and delivery of the research studies, including undertaking volunteer recruitment, screening, and consenting to ensure that the studies are completed effectively and efficiently with suitable volunteers.
The post holder will be expected to have significant clinical experience and hold the skills and judgement required to safely execute invasive in vivo human research studies recruiting both ‘healthy’ and patient volunteers. They will be required to demonstrate an ability to recognise potential adverse health issues that may arise during research studies involving invasive procedures, plus an understanding of how to prevent and respond to these.They should have research expertise and skills to be able to undertake complex research protocols in humans and take responsibility for the delivery of their work.
The appointee should hold a UK recognised registered nurse or paramedic qualification with at least 2 years post-qualification experience, along with extensive clinical skills including, IV cannulation, venepuncture and administration of injections.They should be Immediate Life Support (ILS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) trained.
The post is a permanent part time (29 hours per week) contract.
