Job overview

We are seeking a Research Data Co-ordinator within the Women’s and Children’s Division Research Unit which supports and delivers high quality clinical research studies across the whole division. We have a substantial children’s portfolio of studies and an increasing portfolio of women’s health studies.

There is a Research Delivery Clinical Team and Research Delivery Support Team within the Unit who cover all clinical specialties within the Division.

The post is based with the team in the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Education and Research Centre. The post holder will be expected to work as part of the data team under the supervision of the Research Sisters to provide a data management service.
They will work closely with the trial coordinator and research nurses. The post is focused on data management for trials conducted within the specialties of Paediatric Oncology, Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant and this encompasses Bristol Royal Hospital for Children our partner hospitals across the South West Shared Care Network.

It is expected that the post holder will work flexibly and across all paediatric specialties if required to meet the needs of the Women’s and Children’s Research Unit.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of a team of data co-ordinators, collating data relating to patients participating in clinical trials from multiple sources and entering that into the required databases.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to A level standard
  • GCSE level passes in English, Maths, Science and 3 other subjects at grade C or above
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant qualification in management or administration

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous research data management experience, including data entry, database set up and ability to run reports
  • Previous NHS or Research administration experience
  • Good understanding of the use of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Office and related packages, including databases, spread sheets
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of research governance and clinical trial regulations

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and deal tactfully with people
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
  • Reliable and capable of working with confidential and sensitive information
  • Use initiative and be innovative within the scope of the role
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
