Job overview

We are really exciting to advertise for this innovative dual role Community Practitioner, which will combine the opportunity to deliver family interventions as well as contribute to the clinical delivery of all therapy modalities provided by the Centre for Specialist Psychological Therapies.

The successful applicant will be based within the Specialist Psychological Therapies Family Therapy Service (circa 3 days per week) and will deliver place-based family interventions with service users and their families. You will co-work with experienced family interventions practitioners and systemic family therapists within the service.

You will also co-work alongside CNTW staff who are currently training in family interventions to support their learning and development. You will receive operational, and high-quality specialist clinical supervision in Family Interventions.

The post holder will also work across all the other pathways within Specialist Psychological Services (circa 2 days per week) conducting waiting list management reviews, coordinating and where appropriate co-delivering universal group therapy offers, as well as picking up various ad hoc clinical work to support clients open to the service (e.g. signposting, safeguarding, crisis management, etc.).

We are also open to applications from individuals who are undertaking systemic family interventions in psychosis and bipolar training.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide evidence-based family interventions for psychosis and bipolar with a defined caseload of families within place-based community services.
  • Co-work with other CNTW staff undertaking family interventions training to support their learning and development.
  • Work alongside service leads to evaluate the impact of the post.
  • Participate in the family therapy team clinical meetings and team CPD activities.
  • Complete waiting list management review calls for those people who have been assessed and are awaiting individual or group therapy and escalate any clinical concerns to Pathway Manager/Clinical Lead as required.
  • Conduct ad hoc clinical activity to support the variety of clinical needs of clients open to SPT, including contribution to the SPT Single Point of Access meeting, supporting therapists with safeguarding concerns, signposting/making onward referrals, etc.
  • Coordinate and where appropriate, co-deliver universal group offers or therapy preparatory groups ran by SPT

Person specification

Education and Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as, a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist
  • Mentor Training
  • Post registration training in clinical/psychological interventions relevant to post
  • Proven track record of post registration clinical experience
  • Training in CPA and Safeguarding.
  • Up to date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration qualifications in psychological interventions
  • Experience of working within a community team
  • Non-Medical Prescribing

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • 12-24 months of Band 5 nurse experience, depending on service need
  • Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of difficult to manage/challenging behaviours

Skills and Competencies

Essential criteria
  • Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs
  • Risk assessment and Risk Management/Safety Planning Skills
