We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Statistical Disease Modelling to join the experienced multidisciplinary PRESTO team at the Pandemic Sciences Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine, to make a difference in pandemic preparedness.

The PRESTO study is funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). It aims to simulate outbreaks of epidemic versions of CEPI’s priority pathogens to develop and pre-file protocols for phase III vaccine trials or real-world efficacy studies before an outbreak occurs.

You will be responsible for testing hypotheses and analysing data from various public and confidential sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses. You will build a modelling framework for vaccine trial simulations, and develop and adopt statistical analysis methods, simulation methods, and computer code for use in the project.
You will be performing analyses, including the active management of programs on high-performance clusters. You will be tasked with collaborating in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and presenting papers and posters at project workshops and international conferences.

You will also be responsible for actively managing collaboration with colleagues working on the projects, both within the Pathogen Dynamics group at Oxford and more broadly.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in applied mathematics, statistics, theoretical physics, quantitative biology, or another relevant and related subject along with sufficient specialist knowledge in infectious disease modelling, epidemiology, or simulation science to work within established research programs.

You will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings. You will be able to independently plan and manage a research project, including a research budget as well as have the ability to work on a collaborative project with multiple investigators.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 2 years and is funded by CEPI.

Only applications received before 12 midday on 16 October 2024 will be considered. Please quote 174660 on all correspondence.
