Bioresearch & Veterinary Services is seeking an Animal Facility Manager to manage a BVS animal facility at the University of Edinburgh.
The Opportunity:
To manage a BVS animal facility at the University of Edinburgh. To provide a professional, high welfare and legislatively compliant service to researchers and a positive, safe working environment for all technical staff within a well-maintained facility.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed for the job:
EssentialRelevant academic qualifications at degree level plus relevant experience OR relevant vocational qualifications (i.e. HNC) and significant work experience at a senior grade in an animal facility.
Hold a Home Office Personal Licence and have a NACWO qualification
Relevant professional qualifications issued from the Institute of Animal Technology
Well-developed understanding and working knowledge of the Animals (Scientific Procedure) Act 1986 and Health and Safety legislation
Demonstrable knowledge of managing an animal facility
Proven ability to develop and motivate staff to secure high performance through coaching, motivation and managing performance.
Proven ability to effectively and clearly communicate to a wide variety of staff and researchers at all levels
Demonstrable knowledge of IT systems including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams Excel and databases, particularly Tick@Lab.
DesirableRegistered Animal Technician (RAnTech) professional status
Experience in the maintenance of complex transgenic breeding programs.
Experience of working at a senior level within a university research environment
