An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical embryologist or andrologist with an interest in quality management to join our friendly patient centered team at Salisbury Fertility Centre, in Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust set in the glorious Wiltshire countryside.

Salisbury Fertility Centre is a well-established centre of over 20 years, offering a full range of laboratory diagnostic and assisted conception techniques, including IVF, ICSI, microTESE, gamete & embryo cryopreservation, including a large NHS Fertility Preservation program, along with an active egg and embryo donation programs.

Salisbury Fertility Centre also runs a patient embryo research program with Manchester University Hospital Trust. We are involved as a training centre for the national Scientist Training Program’ having successfully mentored 11 graduates within the scheme.

Suitable applicants must have experience of performing clinical workload within an andrology &/or embryology laboratory setting and be familiar with the HFEA Code of Practice. The successful candidate must be registered as a Clinical Scientist with the HCPC.

The post holder will contribute to all relevant aspects of the clinical laboratory treatments . They will be a flexible member of the laboratory team providing high quality clinical, scientific and academic (teaching) services when required and will develop these services further for Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

As the centre quality manager and a key member of the fertility service you will be expected to work unsupervised with all relevant clinical procedures, organising your own workload, supervising others, and be accountable to the Senior embryologists and lead Clinician for the Fertility Service.

Key responsibilities and duties
  1. To contribute to all relevant aspects of the IVF laboratory treatments and assist with diagnostic andrology procedures as required.
  2. To have an active role in clinical management of patients.
  3. To analyse and assist in optimising laboratory processes.
  4. To have responsibility for managing the centres Quality management system and elements of the clinical services within the embryology and andrology laboratory.
  5. Contribute to the induction and training of junior staff within the Fertility Centre to ensure conformity of service provision and standards.
  6. Contribute to the provision of clinical liaison in support of analytical service by laboratory reports and providing guidance to clinicians on selection, performance and interpretation of relevant investigations.
  7. To assist with laboratory policies and procedures and local Trust policies and procedures (if required), to ensure that clinical services are delivered as specified, in line with Clinical Governance and Quality Management.

  • Bsc in Life Sciences
  • MSc in relevant scientific discipline or equivalent experience
  • State registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist
  • Experience as a Clinical Embryologist or andrologist in a recognised IVF clinic.
  • QM experience
