We have a great opportunity for a Band 7 Targeted Lung Health Check Specialist Nurse to join our Cancer Team at Barts Health NHS Trust, with responsibilities across the Northeast London Cancer Alliance.

The Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) programme is part of the NHS Long Term Plan to improve cancer survival by the early detection of lung cancer. The North East London Cancer Alliance has been awarded funding to deliver this programme, and eligible patients are invited for a Lung CT scan, with the aim of finding tumours at an early, curative, stage.

We are looking for a confident and dynamic nurse with excellent up to date specialist respiratory and cancer knowledge, and advanced clinical skills, who has a key interest in lung cancer, quality improvement and service developments. The successful candidate will be key worker for the patients undergoing the health checks required by this new program and their aftercare, signposting and support.

Main duties of the job

This is a senior nursing position within the Trust which will combine clinical, educational and audit, and managerial skills in order to support the lung cancer screening programme within Barts Health NHS Trust. The position holder will provide lung cancer support to patients, families and staff caring for them.

They will function as a resource and advocate for the speciality. In collaboration with a multi professional team they will influence patient care ensuring patients receive the highest standard of clinical are and access to the full resources of the multiprofessional team in Hospital and community settings.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RGN level 1
  • Relevant degree or commitment to working towards.
  • Commitment to relevant career development opportunities
  • Specialist Nurse Practitioner training at postgraduate level.
  • ENB 998 or equivalent Advanced communication skills training (or commitment to taking)
  • Enthusiasm to present at conferences/ write for publication
  • Expert knowledge of malignant and non malignant pallitiave care
  • Expert symptom control knowledge
  • Training in education
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership and management qualification
  • Working towards MSc
  • Physical assessment skills and qualification.
  • Nurse prescribing
  • Degree in lung Cancer or Cancer related topic.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 5 years post registration experience
  • Extensive experience of working autonomously at an advance level
  • Previous experience of student supervision and clinical education
  • Experience of acute Hospital Information System or Patient Administration Systems
Desirable criteria
  • 2 years oncology experience at band 6
  • Previous follow up or patient initiated follow up experience
  • Ability to understand complex issues, problem solve and propose solutions
  • Experience/ enthusiasm to participate in research/ audit
