Diabetes Technology Support Practitioner - Liverpool
Competent in delivering education sessions to people with diabetes, and teaching patientshow to use Glucose sensors, insulin pumps and other such devices. This may involvedelivery to groups or individual patient sessions, utilising both virtual and face to facemethods.
Working within competencies to support the Clinical Diabetes Team, undertaking clinicalresponsibilities under the direction of the Diabetes Specialist Team. To maintain supplies for relevant tests and also for related therapeutic manoeuvres such assupplies for intensive insulin therapy patients eg blood glucose meters, sensors, andinsulin pumps.
To liaise with internal, external providers and nursing staff, to ensure efficient processes.The post holder will ensure that back up systems are implemented when electronic systemsfail. The Post Holder will use a variety of computer systems to order and access results.
It isexpected that the individual will ensure accuracy in the requesting and reporting of results. The Post Holder will inform diabetes medical and nursing staff of any variance to resultsfrom local parameters. Maintain equipment and undertake internal quality control checks.
Where required liaise with medical engineering in terms of maintenance contracts,concerning the checking of equipment, faults and repair. A system should be in place toensure there is a trail of equipment. Set up, maintain and download glucose monitoring systems and share this information withthe medical and nursing staff.
Assist with the provision of health care for patients within the department Ensure that practice is in line with departmental policies and protocols within the clinicalarea. Support the process of continuous quality improvement, assisting in audits etc.MANAGEMENT Manage the clinical workload effectively; ensuring care and investigations are given theappropriate priority.
Contribute positively towards the delivery of a cost effective service, ensuring suppliesappropriately. Whilst also ensuring that equipment is well maintained with staffunderstanding the use of such equipment. Assist with the monitoring of stock levels of clinical stores and technical equipment, relevantto the role, resolving any shortfall as appropriate.May 2024 Maintain confidentiality with regard to personal information pertaining to staff and patients Attend and contribute to departmental meetings as required.PERSONAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT The post holder will be expected to participate in the process of individual performancereview, to identify objectives for personal and service development.
Participate in and undertake any departmental audits as requested. You are expected to contribute ideas for improvement in your own sphere of work for thebenefit of the department. Work within and accept responsibility for maintaining agreed levels of clinical competenceand ensure clinical competence is acquired as new technologies are introduced.To be an active and committed member of the multidisciplinary team within the Department. Demonstrate an insight into own professional development, contributing to the process ofidentifying own educational and clinical training needs in conjunction with line manager.
