Private Secretary and Business Manager to Director General of Global and Public Health
Global and Public Health group brings together work on health improvement (including tobacco, alcohol, obesity, drugs, and inequalities), health protection (including emergency response, preparedness and vaccines) and engagement with our international partners on health issues, both bilaterally and multilaterally.
We are looking for a motivated and proactive person who can work at pace to provide high quality support to our Director General (DG) and Private Office. The DG’s private office is responsible for: managing the DG’s workflow, including submissions, correspondence, and approvals for clearance; commissioning and quality assuring briefings for meetings, events and visits; organising the DG’s travel and logistics for their engagements across the UK and overseas; maintaining oversight of the DG’s diary to ensure their time is used effectively; and supporting the DG in their wider corporate roles – departmental honours and diversity champion roles.
This is a varied and interesting role, with plenty of development opportunities available. You will be responsible for maintaining oversight of a portfolio of work in the DG area, ensuring that it is delivered in a timely fashion and meets the expectations of the DG.This will include building a strong understanding of the policy objectives within your portfolio, advising the DG on progress and working with teams to ensure DG input where required.
You will lead on coordinating business functions across the group, working closely with others in private office, to high standards and often to tight timeframes. You will support key corporate tasks on the behalf of the group as well as providing resilience across the Private Office, including deputising for the Head of Office where necessary.You will be required to build relationships with Senior Civil Servants (SCS) across each Directorate and their business teams, other DG offices and central teams.
