Job overview

We are looking to recruit an experienced Health Care Support Worker to join our dynamic and friendly team at the Haematology Day Unit at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. The Haematology Day Unit provides specialist care and treatments to a wide range of patients with malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions.

You will need to be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who can work independently and as part of a team. You will be working closely with the multi disciplinary team and will need to have excellent communication skills to be able to support patients going through difficult diagnoses and treatments.

Experience in clinical work is essential. You must be able to plan, prioritise and re-prioritise workload. You will need to be a kind and caring individual committed to providing a high standard of care to our patients.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job
  • Providing support to nursing and medical staff
  • providing support for patients and their relatives/carers
  • dealing with enquires
  • assist with phlebotomy and venesection
  • record patient observations
  • assist with clinical procedures including bone marrow aspiration
  • assist in stock taking and stores
  • ensuring maintenance and cleanliness of equipment
  • chaperoning patients
  • accurate labelling of forms/specimens

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent Skills, experience and training
  • Phlebotomy and cannulation training/qualification

Experience
