Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Specialist Health Visitor for asylum seekers and refugees to deliver the Healthy Child Programme to a caseload of families residing in temporary accommodation (refuges ,hotels and hostels). The post holder will sit within the wider 0-19 Team in Hounslow .

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced Health Visitor to deliver evidence based practice to this population in Hounslow by demonstrating effective skilled communication of sensitive issues, counselling, and reassurance. The applicant must exhibit excellence in the standards for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing / Health Visiting practice, and to be an effective teacher and role model for others to aspire to, by being able to deal with complex situations which require analysis and comparisons of a range of options on a daily basis.

Main duties of the job

The Post holder will offer a targeted package of care to those assessed as requiring a Universal, Universal Plus or Partnership Plus package in line with the Healthy Child Programme to children and families residing within the refugee and asylum seeker community in Hounslow, including those living in temporary accommodation .

This will be achieved in partnership with the Hounslow Health Visiting Team and Hounslow School Nursing Team. The Health Visiting service will be offered within the framework of national and local targets and available resources. The role is underpinned by the principles of Health Visiting practice.

The postholder will maintain skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to deliver a quality service that is responsive to the changing needs of population.
The post holder will achieve the highest standards of care within own specialist area, demonstrating evidence-based practice.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First level Registered General Nurse or Midwife
  • BSC(Hons)Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) or equivalent level qualifications
  • Evidence of post registration education
Desirable criteria
  • Master’s Level Advanced Practice qualification or equivalent
  • ENB 997/Mentor Assessor/Practice Assessor

Experience/ Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • 3 Years post SCPHN experience and delivering Healthy Child Programme
  • Safeguarding children knowledge and experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding Procedures
  • Evidence of continual professional development
  • Experience of working with other agencies, especially social services and commitment to inter-agency working
  • Experience of working with children, adolescents and their families in a wide range of health settings
  • Awareness of High Impact Areas
  • Experience of planning and delivering training and health promotion
  • Experience of child protection and special needs
  • Working knowledge of the public health agenda and influencing factors

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to prioritise own work.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with using clinical systems.
