The role of a medical receptionist / Administrator is the face of the practice to patients and other visitors so candidates should be friendly, presentable and willing to contribute as a team player to the smooth running of the practice. Duties will include identifying patients' problems and bringing them to the attentions of the correct clinician, i.e., triage GP, Nurse, PCN roles etc. Receiving patients and handling their enquiries, dealing with incoming calls and emails and act upon them accordingly; booking appointments; act on tasks requested by other members of the practice team; keeping the reception area tidy and well-organised; process all telephone requests in a courteous, pleasant and professional manner; other duties as requested.

Excellent communication skills and a full understading of practice procedures are a key part of the role and this extends to recognising patient need for alternative methods of communication and to respond accordingly. Patient confidentiality is paramount and protocols are expected to be understood and maintained.
The candidate will need to develop a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures. The post-holder will be expected to support the equality, diversity and rights of all patients, carers and colleagues and behave in a manner which is welcoming, non-judgmental and respects the circumstances, feelings and rights of individuals.

The post-holder will be expected to strive to maintain the excellent reputation and smooth-running of the practice and to develop their skills to keep pace with practice progression.
