Level 2 Special Needs Teaching Assistant
This is a temporary one-year post to cover maternity leave, starting 22nd April 2025, 37 hours a week, term time only. Pay point 6 – 11 pro-rata

Key Duties: Assist the class teacher in the planning and evaluation of learning activities for children with SEND.
Provide 1:1 support to individuals with SEND on teacher planned activities, whilst monitoring progress and dealing with challenges as they arise.Use appropriate equipment and resources, modifying them if necessary to enable the children to take part and progress.
Contribute to the implementation of an effective behaviour management strategy, applying it fairly and consistently within clear boundaries and reinforcing positive behaviour.
Develop positive relationships with parents, carers and families, sharing accurate information where appropriate.
A successful candidate will support pupils by:
Supporting learning activities for children with SEND, maintaining an awareness of the individuals’ specific needs and give positive encouragement and feedback.
Providing a safe and secure environment, responding appropriately to accidents and emergencies, following all established procedures.
Ensuring a safe environment and follow safeguarding procedures at all times.
Developing and promoting positive relationships with children by communicating effectively, allowing them to feel valued and listened to.
Assisting with personal and intimate care of children.
A successful candidate will support the teacher by: Sharing ideas and feedback with the class teacher about the children you are supporting.
Working alongside the teacher to ensure that learning resources and materials are ready to be used in activities, adjusting where necessary.Escorting and supervising children with SEND on educational visits and out of school activities.
A successful candidate will support the curriculum by:
Supporting children with SEND in activities to develop their English and Maths skills by having discussions with the teacher and having an awareness of individual needs, learning targets and the relevant support required to assist their development.
Preparing and effectively using ICT, if appropriate, within the classroom environment to support and promote children’s learning in ways that are stimulating and enjoyable for them according to age, needs and abilities.A successful candidate will support the school by:
Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with other practitioners, drawing on their strengths and expertise in order to best support teaching and learning.
Supporting children with SEND through transitions that occur in their lives, enabling them to manage them in a positive manner.
Being willing to keep up to date with professional practice by maintaining an up-to-date understanding of the requirements of the role and individual responsibilities.
Contributing to maintaining accurate pupil records following relevant procedure and ensuring confidentiality at all times.
