The company services a wide range of industries including FMCG customers, retailers, food and drink manufacturers and building material specialists.
The planner will be responsible for the scheduling and monitoring of vehicle (HGV) road deliveries within agreed delivery times and customer requirements. It includes planning routes within the UK, allocating the correct equipment and drivers for the loads, ensuring compliance with regulations, monitoring drivers, their working hours and helping to ensure the operation runs efficiently at all times.
The Role:
- Assist senior planners in assigning loads to drivers including; routing, journey time, appropriate vehicles for load type, driver location and availability, customer requirements, load security, etc
- Ensure driver’s hours and working time directive regulations and related legislation are adhered to.
- Liaise with HGV drivers, customers, suppliers and all internal stakeholders as required.
- Ensure the transport system is updated in real time and reflecting current state.
- Responding to all queries, calls and emails. Keeping the transport team updated at all times.
- Plan and monitor collections and deliveries to agreed movement schedules and taking immediate corrective action if and when required.
- Ensure vehicles and trailers are presented to the workshop for service, MOT and defect rectification.
- Maintain all systems, processes and reporting requirements.
- This role requires weekend and on-call work in line with the needs of the business. Weekend and on-call work will be shared between the planning team members. When working on-call you will be required to carry the on-call phone and deal with all queries that arise.
- Other ad hoc administration duties.
- Be organised, focused with a proven ability to meet multiple deadlines.
- Have attention to detail with strong IT capability.
- Be very comfortable working in a dynamic and fast changing environment.
- Have an ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate a practical approach to problem solving.
- Possess strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate well at all levels within the business.
- Be highly motivated with the drive and desire to learn and progress.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience of planning in the road transport industry would be a distinct advantage, however, full on the job training will be provided.
- A related third level qualification would be desirable (e.g. business, supply chain, project management)
- IT skills, MS office as a minimum
