The opportunity has arisen for a Venue Layout Supervisor to join Worthing Theatres and Museum.

As part of the Venue Layout department (which sits with Technical and Production) this post is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and accurate completion of seating and auditorium / room layouts for live shows, events and functions at WTM’s multi-purpose venues.

Training and supervising the work of a team of casuals.

Main duties, tasks and responsibilities of post holder
  • One of two supervisors who carry out and supervise all layout changes within WTM’s multi-purpose venues (and Museum as required).
  • Be well-versed in the many different layouts for WTM’s venues suggesting improvements and efficiencies where possible.
  • Liaise with the Head of Technical and Production on a weekly basis to ensure the auditorium seating/furniture layouts across all WTM venues are completed in advance of events and performances.
  • Liaise with the Venue Hire Manager to make sure all layout requirements are met for venue hire events.
  • Ensure Health and Safety procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • Supervise and train staff involved in all aspects of Layout requirements for live productions, rehearsals, activities and events in all venues as required.
  • Supervise the moving of furniture and equipment between venues as needed.
  • Open and close venues as required.
  • Be a First Aider.
  • Work with the Technical team in laying out stage extensions and assist with get-in/get-out for large scale shows.
  • Occasionally act as technical support for orchestra concerts at the Assembly Hall.
  • Occasionally cover film projection shifts.
  • Report any maintenance issues with seating, furniture and equipment.
  • Responsible for the care of the auditorium seating, banquet seating, furniture and stage extensions used for all seating/furniture layouts.
  • Assist the buildings team with decoration and maintenance of the venues as required.
  • Assist with Museum exhibition changes and movement of collection items to storage or other locations as needed.
Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge
  • Must have relevant experience in seating and venue layout
  • Self-motivating with the ability to plan a day’s work for themselves and other staff, prioritising urgent work in line with the schedule of events.
  • Good time management and ability to work to under pressure to deadlines
  • Comfortable lone working as needed
  • A good understanding of responsible health and safety practice in the workplace, particularly in relation to the physical aspects of the role.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations and how this applies to venue layouts
  • Able to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, overnight, weekends and bank holidays and split shifts.
  • Comfortable with manual handling throughout a shift (lifting and moving chairs and tables etc.) and able to lift heavy loads
  • Ability to understand and interpret seating plans
  • Good computer skills and proficiency with email and other Google/Microsoft apps/programmes
  • Full clean driving license and ability to drive a van
  • Able to communicate effectively with colleagues, supervise staff and work well in and motivate a small team
  • An understanding of equalities and how to apply this in the workplace, thinking about both customers and colleagues.
