Role Overview

We are looking for a creative communications professional to join the external communications team at the Valuation Office Agency (VOA).

The external communications team are responsible for coordinating delivery of our stakeholder engagement, public affairs and customer content as well as dealing with the media and helping the organisation prioritise and target our key customers and stakeholder groups.

Over the next three years the Agency will be implementing reforms to the business rates system in England and Wales, which means businesses will for the first time have to let us know about changes to their property which could affect the rates they pay.

It is a big change. One that needs us to work effectively with our partners, explain our plans and priorities and communicate effectively and clearly with our customers, rating agents and stakeholders.

You’ll be part of the team developing and delivering the campaign to communicate these changes.

Key responsibilities
  • To lead on the development of external campaign activity (including media, stakeholder, customer and paid-for) to support the implementation of business rates changes.
  • To build and maintain effective relationships with a range of teams across the agency, as well as external stakeholders and partners that can contribute to the VOA’s strategic objectives.
  • To provide strategic communications advice to senior leaders and programme teams.
  • To gather insight and evidence from the business, our customers and stakeholders and use this to inform communications activity.
  • To set and report on objectives for communications activity within an agile programme, and effectively measure the impact of work being delivered.
  • To manage queries from the media on behalf of the VOA linked to the programme, with the possibility of taking part in the out-of-hours duty rota.
