The Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (MTP) research group at the University of Hertfordshire invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. This fellowship is intended to allow the Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Mathematics and Theoretical Physics) to develop their own independent research programme in any area building on, or complementary to, the research group's existing strengths.

These include: Integrability; Quantum Algebras and their Representation Theory; Higher and Derived Structures; Homotopy Algebras; Supergravity and Generalized Geometry; Scattering Amplitudes; Semigroups; Topological Algebra; Applied Category Theory.

The position is of 3 years duration. The position can start at any date after 1 May 2025 and no later than 1 October 2025.

Main duties and responsibilities

You will be expected to pursue your own independent research programme in mathematics and/or theoretical physics, leading to the publication of research outputs including refereed publications in recognised journals. You are also expected to be open to collaborative projects with other members of the MTP research group, and to contribute to the positive and productive working atmosphere within the group by, for example, helping with the running of seminar series and journal clubs.

You may have the opportunity to undertake some light teaching duties as part of your general academic development.

Skills and experience required

You should have proven experience working in a research environment, a record of scholarly work such as published work in peer reviewed journals, and you should have experience of presenting your research such as contributions to conferences and symposia at a local and national level.

You will have good IT skills and knowledge of research methodology appropriate for the subject area and knowledge of appropriate databases for the discipline and ability to conduct literature searches in the discipline using appropriate electronic resources.

Qualifications required

You will hold an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, theoretical physics, or another relevant discipline. You will hold a PhD (or equivalent qualification), or close to completion of PhD (no more than 3 months prior to viva) in mathematics, theoretical physics, or another relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
