Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it.Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.

A rare and exciting maternity leave cover opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, dynamic and clinically experienced children’s nurse to join the Evelina London paediatric research team. This pivotal post will lead on the delivery of education and training to a team of research professionals within the Paediatric Clinical Research Facilities (CRF).We are seeking to appoint an experienced Band 6 or an established Band 7 as a Practice Development Nurse (PDN- maternity leave cover) to support with an extensive portfolio of NIHR non-commercial and commercial studies within the Paediatric research speciality.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the paediatric CRFs at Evelina Children's Hospital for a dynamic and inspirational PDN to support our research workforce in the successful delivery of a large portfolio of clinical trials. The successful candidate will possess an excellent range of clinical skills, experience working with children, young people and families, and be able to demonstrate knowledge of clinical and research governance and experience of supporting clinical research.
As a skilled communicator, the successful candidate must also possess excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills, acting as an ambassador for promoting evidence based practice and research utilisation. The PDN will work with the Paediatric Research Matron and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive education package for all members of the team, regularly working in research clinics alongside staff.

Working for our organisation
This post has been created as a consequence of sustained activity in paediatric research. The Trust is one of London’s largest recruitingpaediatric sites contributing to NIHR Clinical Research Network (NIHR-CRN) supported studies. Currently, all major paediatric subspecialties, with the exception of hepatology and neurosurgery, are located in GSTFT and all areas are engaging in NIHR-CRN supported studies.
The paediatric clinical research team in which this post sits will (a) contribute to the ongoing expansion of research activity and capabilities within Evelina London Children’s Hospital, (b) facilitate greater paediatric access to the Wolf and Seal CRFs within ELCH, (c) support neonatal research occurring within the Centre for the Developing Brain and d) through working with the existing research nurse pool, promote research activity elsewhere within ELCH and within our partner organisations in Kings Healthcare Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre.

Skills
Essential criteria- Detailed knowledge of ICH GCP, UK Policy Framework for health and Social Care Research, EU Clinical Trials Directive and The Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations 2004
- Competent to advise on clinical trial training and support
- Good understanding of clinical research methodology.
- Excellent clinical skills e.g. venepuncture, cannulation, IV therapy
- Excellent computer literacy and IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, databases)
- Strong correspondence, presentation and report writing skills
- Excellent communication, organisation and prioritisation skills
- Ability to work on own initiative without supervision
- Understanding of the requirements for and of MHRA phase I accreditation for CRFs
- Paediatric Immediate Life Support Training certification
- Ability to understand scientific terms and data presentations
- An understanding of the commercial research environment and the expectations of its stakeholders
Previous experience
Essential criteria- Extensive experience in acute paediatric care at NHS agenda for change Band 6 or 7
- A minimum 2 years post-qualification experience in research-related field
- Experience of recruiting participants to clinical research studies or trials
- Experience of working within the NHS, or in an academic clinical research setting.
