Medical Secretary - Dermatology

We have an opportunity to join our friendly team as a Medical Secretary to support Dermatology Outpatients. We can offer you full time hours and flexibility working on site with some working from home.
The team works together to assist in the smooth running of the department and ensure patients have the best possible experience. On a day to day basis you’ll be supporting clinicians with general administration, including audio typing. You’ll also be liaising with patients, clinicians and other teams in the Trust so you will need to have a patient focused approach to your work.

Main duties of the job
To liaise with the medical team, GP's and patients to provide an excellent administration service for all patients.
First point of contact for patients and other Health Care Professionals via telephone and email.
Typing letters using dictation system directly into hospital system (incl. Millennium).
Using Microsoft software e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet and Intranet.
Management of consultant clinic diaries.
Booking patient appointments and completing outcomes.

Person specification
Knowledge and experience
Essential criteria- A minimum of 1-year in a Secretarial role.
- Willingness to learn medical terminology (following a period of learning on the job if necessary) and use this effectively as part of the role.
- Experience of working in a customer/patient focused environment.
Specific skills
Essential criteria- Computer literate: able to use Microsoft Word and email and other office applications to maximise the efficiency of the office.
- Ability to work as part of a team and using own initiative.
Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria- Educated to GCSE pass level or CSE equivalent qualification.
- Word processing / audio typing qualifications or RSA level or equivalent experience.
- Evidence of good literacy and numeracy skills
- AMSPAR qualification or equivalent
