Main duties of the job
  • To maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing incorporating the Named Nurse initiative.
  • To co-ordinate the patients’ transfer arrangements in accordance with RECOVERY and Theatre protocols including the effective handover of care to other relevant staff.
  • To promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals.
  • To educate patients and their carers as required where a need has been identified.
  • To ensure that all clinical documentation is completed correctly by members of the RECOVERY and theatre team.
  • To maintain a safe post-operative environment.
  • To assist in the establishment and monitoring of RECOVERY and theatre protocols of the blue and green care pathways.
  • To promote and maintain effective communication within the operating theatre department, RECOVERY and ward areas.
  • To maintain patient confidentiality and ensure all staff understand the relevance of this.
  • To supervise junior staff in the delivery of care, through effective monitoring, mentoring, clinical supervision and reflective appraisal practice.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • State Registered with NMC OR HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Post-registration training preferably in speciality area.
  • Post qualification in critical care, Anaesthetic course.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice, particularly within specialty area and the application of this in practice.
  • Understanding of equality & diversity and how to apply it to self and others.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of taking charge of a ward and delegating responsibilities
