We are looking for experienced Operating Department Practitioners and Theatre Nurses at the Glenfield hospital ready to take the next step in their continuing professional development. Also individuals who can demonstrate organisational skills such as time management, task prioritisation and development of others; through effective clinical, managerial/ leadership skills.
Educational resources such as Centre for Clinical Practice, accredited Leadership/Development courses, degree modules funding and cultural ambassadors ensure equal opportunity career development.
Specialties at the Glenfield Hospital include: Cardiac, Vascular, HPB, Renal, Breast & Thoracic surgery.
A range of shifts patterns are available with teams such as Emergency working additional shift patterns to cover the 24/7 service. Most elective teams work a 5 day week, some with planned 3 session days. There are regular weekend sessions for a smaller number of specialties.The Cardiac Thoracic and Emergency Team also have an on call commitment.
Main duties of the job- Visible clinical expertise, leading multi-disciplinary teams daily to provide direction, effective and inspirational leadership within the area of responsibility.
- Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based care to patients.
- Co-ordination and supervision of staff involved in all aspects of clinical duties
- Deputise and manage the clinical area in absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse/Team Leader
- Participate in the effective clinical leadership and management of the team.
- Actively contribute to the improvement of services and quality of care provision to meet the needs of patients, service users and their families.
- Act as a role model; mentoring, teaching, assessing and supporting students/learners on placement and participate in the education, development and mentorship of other staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- Support Team Leader/Matron to ensure clinical environment is safe, clean, comfortable and well maintained in line with patient and public expectations.
- Ensure delivery of care to all patients when in charge meet the standards determined by the Sister/Charge Nurse/Team Leader.
- Ensure self and team member’s provide a personalised service to patients in accordance with agreed standards and promotes quality, diversity and rights.
- Contribute to setting, maintaining and monitoring of standards of care to optimum levels and lead improvement of care through benchmarking, audit and research.
- In the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse/Team Leader ensure adequate support, safe mentorship and supervision of learner nurses and staff.
- Proactively seek feedback on patient and public experience in order to address concerns in a timely manner and build on success.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- RGN/– First Level/ODP
- Recognised NMC Teaching and Assessing Qualification or equivalent experience
- Audit experience / research skills
Training and qualifications
Essential criteria- Have completed a Practice Assessor preparation day and have recent experience in supporting/assessing learners' practice in the workplace
- Evidence of Post registration Educational Continuing development
- Demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise
- Good understanding of quality, safety and risk management
- Clinical leadership program
Communication
Essential criteria- Use initiative and has the ability to lead and co-ordinate a multi disciplinary team
- Good verbal and written skills
- Computer literacy

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.
The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
