An exciting opportunity has occurred to join CWP's Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Team as a Family Support Worker. We are seeking an individual with a genuine interest in working with women and families in the perinatal period, who has excellent communication and multi-agency liaison skills and a has a good knowledge of safeguarding.

Experience of working in the Perinatal Mental Health field is desirable but not essential.

We are a friendly, highly committed team who provide multi-disciplinary, specialised care to women in the perinatal period with moderate to severe mental health problems throughout Cheshire and Wirral. We offer excellent training opportunities to our staff and provide robust supervision to support delivery of high quality care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will actively work with families and carers in their home and in the community working flexibly and will offer practical support and advice based on the identified needs of service users and their children.

The team's core working hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.

Access to transport for work purposes is required.

Successful applicants will be located within the CWP Team and the caseload will predominantly be in the East Cheshire area. We have bases in Macclesfield and Ellesmere Port.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of NVQ Level 3 in a subject relevant to Health, Social Care and/or child development
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing training and development.
  • Good standard of general education including English and Maths to GCSE grade C or above or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • Foundation Degree in Health Care

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Clinical skills and competency relevant to the role.
  • Ability to support clients in crisis.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development
  • Record keeping & report writing skills, including IT skills to manage electronic patient notes
  • Understanding of issues relating to safeguarding of vulnerable groups.
  • Awareness of clinical governance.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and diversity issues
  • Able to work autonomously and as part of a team
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to deliver training to other professionals, service users and carers.
  • Knowledge and understanding of attachment and bonding.
  • Good working knowledge of models of family support.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of person centred planning and person centred approaches to care
  • Experience in a health or social care setting with service users and/or families with complex needs’
  • To demonstrate how to implement clinical care/ care packages
  • Post qualification experience of working with children, young people and their families
  • Experience of working with challenging groups /individuals
  • Recent experience of working with parents/families/children.
  • Experience of contributing to appropriate risk management/child protection plans
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with clients in Recovery from serious Mental Health issues.
  • Experience in a health related care setting with service users experiencing severe and enduring mental health.
