Project Accountant
We are thrilled to be partnering with a prominent global engineering organisation in search of an experienced Project Accountant. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide financial oversight for long-term projects, deliver precise financial forecasts, and actively challenge costs to improve project performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support project planning by assisting in the creation and ongoing maintenance of detailed Work Breakdown Structures, ensuring clarity and accountability for all project components.
- Facilitate discussions upon project completion, communicating key insights to relevant teams and ensuring improvements are captured for future projects.
- Ensure proper cost allocation to project accounts, reviewing coding on requisitions, purchase orders, contracts, and invoices. Reconcile project costs to the General Ledger and investigate variances as necessary.
- Perform detailed cost variance analysis and sensitivity assessments, identifying risks, opportunities, and providing actionable insights to the project manager to inform decisions.
- Provide accurate project revenue and profit margin data during monthly actuals, forecasts, and the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with company standards and financial objectives.
- Conduct regular Value of Work Done assessments throughout the project lifecycle, comparing actual progress with planned milestones. Identify slippages, escalating issues to management and suggesting remedial actions.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive project cost and revenue budgets in collaboration with the project team. Regularly update financial forecasts Estimate at Completion and present these to key stakeholders for review.
- Perform other duties as assigned by senior leadership, contributing to the continuous improvement of project financial performance.
Requirements:
- Prior experience in project accounting or cost control
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey financial data effectively
- Solid understanding of financial accounting principles and practices
