Job overview
The Paediatric Physiotherapy service of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has an opportunity for a motivated physiotherapy assistant practitioner to join the paediatric physiotherapy team on a part time permanent basis.
This post is intended to support the Paediatric Physiotherapy Service predominantly on Princess of Wales site but may also need to cover other sites including Royal Glamorgan Children’s Centre, Carnegie Clinic and Ysbyty Cwm Cynon Children Centre.
Covering physiotherapy services to schools and helping deliver our enhanced service model in schools is core in this role.
There is an emphasis on delivery of programs of physiotherapy input on an individual and group basis in clinic settings and a variety of Community settings.
Administration and clerical duties to support the smooth running of the service will be expected of you.
The post holder will need to be a team player who enjoys working in a fast paced environment. You will need excellent clinical reasoning, time management, observation and communication skills and be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in achieving well being and positive health outcomes for the population we serve.
The post holder will require the ability to perform and cope with all aspects of manual handling and carry out the full range of duties required of the post.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake skilled support work which involves clinical techniques requiring high level of technical skills to assess and treat patients as well as housekeeping and administrative duties to support the physiotherapy service.
The post holder will be expected to organise and manage own caseload; assist with data collection and analysis and bring forward ideas for service development.
Having an understanding of evidence based practice and delivering care in line with current evidence the post holder will conduct delegated new patient assessments, determine and implement care plans, modify treatment in response to patient outcomes and manage the discharge process, within locally agreed protocols, care bundles and guidelines.
Delegation may be through the service referral management process or from a triage or screening assessment process based on local agreements.

Person specification
Knowledge
Desirable criteria- An appreciation of the principles of physiotherapy practices and procedures.
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of working as Band 3 in healthcare or equivalent experience from the leisure or social care sector.
- Leading both group and one to one rehabilitation with patient/service users that require high levels of supervision, advanced communication techniques and planning.
Qualifications
Essential criteria- Knowledge acquired through inhouse training, short course and experience to NVQ 3 level or equivalent plus
- Knowledge of specific patient conditions, forms of therapy, acquired through training, experience
- Minimum 120 credits of Health care support worker framework (60% of which must be at Level 4) or equivalent qualification relevant to role
- Basic understanding of commonly used therapy and medical terms.
