Job overview

Our Trust is on an incredible journey of innovation and we’d like you to be part of it. To excel, you will be an enthusiastic, caring and compassionate individual who is looking to work within a Trust that is ambitious to perform well and has been recognised by the Care Quality Commission as one of the fastest improving mental health Trusts in the country.

We are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Band 7 Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT Therapist) to join our Mental Health Support Team (MHST). This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled clinician to take on a key role in both delivering high-quality CBT interventions and providing clinical leadership within the team.

The role involves delivering high- and low-intensity CBT interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties. You will work autonomously within your professional scope, undertaking comprehensive assessments, developing formulations and delivering structured, evidence-based interventions in line with NICE guidance.

Main duties of the job

A central component of this Band 7 role is to provide clinical skills supervision, consultation and leadership to the wider MHST workforce, including Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs), trainees and other clinicians. You will be responsible for supporting the development of CBT competencies across the team, promoting high standards of clinical practice, and ensuring fidelity to evidence-based models.

This will include facilitating reflective practice, supporting complex case discussions, and contributing to the clinical governance of the service.

You will also play an active role in service development, contributing to the ongoing transformation of Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services. This includes supporting the implementation of best practice, contributing to outcome monitoring, and working collaboratively with schools and partner agencies to improve access and outcomes for children and families.

Applicants must hold a recognised CBT qualification (e.g. Postgraduate Diploma in CBT) and be accredited with, or working towards accreditation with, a recognised professional body such as BABCP. Experience of providing clinical supervision including holding the relevant supervision qualification and supporting the development of others is essential for this role.

Working for our organisation

As a Trust we remain bold and ambitious with plans for both service and system collaborative transformation over the coming years to improve the health and wellbeing of our local people through high quality care.

We pride ourselves on ensuring our team has their wellbeing put first and as such provide a range of wellness opportunities including flexible working.

We are committed to the Greener NHS national ambition to becoming the world’s first ‘carbon net zero’ national health system by 2045 (Greener NHS (england.nhs.uk). As part of this, sustainability is embedded in our strategy as one of our four key enablers.

In order to deliver on this commitment, we recognise that we need a workforce that is as passionate as we are about achieving these goals, for the benefit of our service users, workforce, local communities and the planet alike.

The Trust is committed to ensuring that a diverse workforce is representative and inclusive at all levels. We would very much welcome applications from all under-represented groups including women, people with disabilities, people from global majority backgrounds, and those from the lesbian, gay, bi and trans communities.

The Trust is committed to the Step into Health scheme and actively encourages applicants from the Armed Forces Communities to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Our vision is ‘To be Outstanding in all we do and how we do it.’ Our teams pride themselves on compassion, teamwork and resilience. The Trust supports you by offering a flexible shift system and compressed hours to support working families, and staff parking is free on all our main sites.

You can expect Continuing Professional Development (CPD) tailored to your professional development needs, with individual CPD advice available from our Practice Education Team. You will receive regular supervision in line with Trust values and professional standards, alongside opportunities to further develop your leadership and supervisory skills.

The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering high-quality, outcome-informed, focused and evidence-based interventions for children and young people, while also taking a lead role in supporting the clinical development of the team.

The Mental Health Support Teams are currently based across Stoke, the Staffordshire Moorlands and North Staffordshire.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a developing service with high expectations for improving outcomes for children and families in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.

As an employee and representative of the Trust, you are required to demonstrate and uphold the Trust’s Values:

This is an exciting time in the transformation of Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services, and as one of the founding areas for this service, this role is a perfect opportunity to help shape the services we provide in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire within our MHST schools.

Though the role is currently 30 hours there will be an opportunity to review this as the team expands to follow the 100% MHST coverage with the potential to increase to full time if desired.
