What skills and experience we're looking for

Main Purpose of the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the classroom teacher and SENDCo in ensuring students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) have full access to the curriculum. You will work closely with students to provide tailored in-class and out-of-class support, develop strong relationships, and adapt learning materials to meet individual needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Support to the Teacher:

  • Assist in the delivery of structured work programmes and help adapt curriculum content for students with additional needs.
  • Support the development and implementation of Individual Learning Plans and assist with monitoring students' progress.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on student progress and contribute to lesson planning.
  • Help manage classroom behaviour in line with the Academy's behaviour management strategies.
  • Undertake basic administrative tasks to support the teacher.

Support to Students:

  • Offer tailored support to students during lessons and activities, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Encourage student interaction and participation, helping them to engage with learning.
  • Assist with personal needs, health, and welfare, including first aid when necessary.
  • Act as a Key Worker, setting and monitoring student goals while maintaining regular communication with parents/carers.
  • Update Provision Maps to ensure student support plans are clear and effective.

Support to Curriculum:

  • Assist in the preparation of curriculum materials and support the delivery of interventions in literacy, numeracy, and SEN strategies.
  • Use ICT to enhance learning and promote student independence.
  • Help organise and participate in extracurricular activities such as Homework Club and Breakfast Club.

Support to the Academy:

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of students, ensuring compliance with child protection, health and safety, and data protection policies.
  • Liaise with teachers, parents, and external professionals to support student learning and wellbeing.
  • Attend relevant meetings and participate in training and performance development activities.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with additional needs.
  • A proactive and caring attitude, with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt the curriculum to meet individual needs and support students with a range of learning barriers.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and health and safety policies in an educational setting.
