Job overview
The medicines management directorate at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Assistant Technical Officer to join the Patient Services team.
We are committed to the development of our staff and can offer excellent in house training where you will be supported and encouraged to further develop your skills in new and diverse roles.
Our ATOs are valued members of the Pharmacy team and these new roles will be developed further to support the Pharmacy staff working at ward level. You will gain experience across a variety of specialties, working closely with Technicians and Pharmacists to deliver high quality, patient focused medicines management services.
Main duties of the job
Working both as part of a team, independently and using your own initiative is essential for this role.
You must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, be self-motivated and willing to develop with new ways of working. Attention to detail and being able to work well under pressure are also essential. You would be required to work towards the NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services if you do not already have this qualification.
The main duties will encompass:
- Assembling and dispensing in-patient, outpatient and take home medication and processing controlled drug requisitions following standard dispensary operating procedures.
- Dealing with routine enquires from health care staff and patients
- Participation in the ward based medicines management service following successful completion of an accreditation Programme.
- Participation in the training of new staff and students
- Supporting Pharmacy logistics in providing a safe, effective and efficient pharmacy purchasing and distribution services.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential criteria- GCSE Maths and English to Grade C or above
- Good communication skills
- Accurate and methodical
- Willingness to work towards additional qualifications to support the role (NVQ/MM)
- Previous experience working in a hospital or community pharmacy
- NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
Aptitude and Ability
