Job overview
The post holder will maintain a day-to-day oversight of the setup of new clinical trials and logistical management of open trials. Responsibilities will include line management and development of clinical trial practitioners, data managers and research assistants.The post holder will manage their own portfolio of clinical trials, data entry and adequately support the research delivery team, liaise with relevant clinical trial sponsor representatives to ensure smooth set up of clinical trials, to liaise with internal service support departments in relation to research, to work with the Lead Research Manager (LRM) to ensure the trial portfolio is delivered in practice.
The person will be responsible for operational and financial management of the department and to co-ordinate Regulatory and R & D submissions and to maintain databases of trial activity.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will take on clinical responsibilities such as: coordinating and monitoring the care of patients on clinical trials, participating in patient care planning in communication with the medical team, research nurses and family to meet the needs of the trial patient.Providing cross cover for other research staff working within the clinical trials unit.
They will be responsible for overseeing the trials feasibility process, will liaise with clinical trial sponsors about complex clinical trials and communicate with support departments about clinical trial set up and the requirements of each trial.
The post holder will maintain overall oversight of the research team, participates in workforce review and resource allocation and line manages the day to day duties and development of staff within the team.
They will also liaise with sponsors and the finance team over trial costings, keep accurate records of the monies accrued from commercial studies and liaise with the finance team to ensure the payments are received.

Education & professional Qualifications
Essential criteria- • First Degree or equivalent in scientific/ healthcare or related discipline OR Healthcare Professional qualification with current registration
- Post graduate qualification/ Working towards a masters or equivalent experience
Experience
Essential criteria- Significant clinical research experience or equivalent in industry or healthcare.
- Working knowledge of ICH GCP.
- Team management experience.
- Experience of work in the NHS
- Experience in report writing
- Experience of acting as a patient advocate
- Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and simplified manner
Skills and aptitudes
Essential criteria- Proven effectiveness as working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Has knowledge of Commercial and Non Commercial Study invoicing and Finance
- Demonstrates ability to prioritise workload
