Job overview

Youth First – West Midlands Community FCAMHS provides advice, guidance and consultation to professionals who are working with young people under the age of 18 years presenting with forensic risk and have diagnosable mental health, neurodiversity and/or LD or suspicion of these.

FCAMHS Inreach Service is a 12 month pilot funded by WMCPC. The aim of this pilot is to provide specialist in-reach support, consultation, guidance and assessment to young people with a forensic profile, experiencing long lengths of stay and/ or barriers to discharge due to their risk.

This pilot is specifically providing inreach to the inpatient services across the West Midlands.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and innovative nurse to play a pivotal role within our FCAMHS Inreach Service Pilot. Alongside a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist you will jointly manage a defined caseload and provide intensive inreach support to inpatient units across the West Midlands region.
You will be required to have extensive experience of complex case management, inpatient services and experience of working with young people presenting with forensic risk. You will have worked as a senior nurse within community CAMHS or inpatient CAMHS and possess the skills to work collaboratively with MDT’s and multiagency networks.

You must be able to demonstrate effective conflict resolution skills and experience of managing multifaceted relational dynamics whilst maintaining professional integrity.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to liaise with the inpatient teams virtually and in person which will require you to travel to inpatient hospitals across the West Midlands where the young people on the Inreach caseload are being assessed and treated. You will have the opportunity to develop working relationships with key partners within the young persons care team, including those partner agencies within the community.
You will play a key role in jointly working with the inpatient teams to influence assessment, treatment and therapeutic intervention, risk formulation and management. You will support with the review of restrictive practices and offer advice and guidance where appropriate.

You will attend ward rounds, MDT’s and other key multiagency meetings to support and influence multiagency risk planning and risk reduction to reduce barriers to timely discharge. You will have the opportunity where appropriate to undertake clinical interviews with the young person and their family/carers to gain a better understanding of their risk presentation and produce risk assessments (e.g., SAVRY) or feed into joint risk assessments being completed by the inpatient team.

You will be supported throughout by the Consultant Psychiatrist aligned to the pilot and can draw on support, advice and expertise from the wider Youth First Team. You will participate in the weekly Youth First MDT and determine if referrals are appropriate for the FCAMHS Inreach Service Pilot.
