Summer Internship: Vector Science

AviadoBio is seeking a motivated summer intern to join our Vector Sciences Team. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in biotechnology, whilst contributing to our mission of developing transformative treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.

Purpose

The position is a summer internship within the Vector Sciences department at AviadoBio with the aim of giving scientific and industry experience in a company delivering transformative treatments for neurodegenerative diseases. The project will focus on the optimisation of small-scale vector production and purification, allowing the team to expediate screening of new candidate viral vectors.

Requirements

The Ideal Candidate
  • A current undergraduate student completing their second or third year of studies
  • Background in Biochemistry, Genetics, or other Biological Sciences
  • An interest in Gene Therapy and Biotechnology
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and scientific curiosity
  • Some experience working in a laboratory environment
Internship Details
  • Duration: 3 months
  • Start Date: Between mid-June and early July 2025
  • Compensation: This is a paid internship offering minimum wage
  • Location: London, UK
Accountabilities
  • Confidently assist team members of the VS team to complete both upstream and downstream rAAV vector production, to meet the demands of in vitro studies
  • Plan and execute experiments within the Vector Sciences remit
  • Exhibit competency with regard to data analysis (using appropriate statistical tests, when necessary), presenting results in a concise and meaningful manner
  • Maintain accurate documentation and recordkeeping within laboratory notebooks and quality systems, ensuring data integrity, IP protection, and regulatory compliance
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment through compliance with company and industry standards
Required Knowledge and Experience
  • Some experience in mammalian tissue culture and Molecular Biology would be beneficial
  • An understanding of analytical techniques, such as Western blot, qPCR and ELISA, as well as data analysis, would be beneficial
  • Experience in laboratory environments and techniques such as pipetting and buffer preparation
  • Demonstrated ability to present data and engage in critical analysis of technical topics
