Main duties of the job

As a key member of our Cardiology Department, you will be responsible for delivering expert care and leadership in cardiac rhythm management, including device implantation, programming, and follow-up. Your work will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care in a modern and forward-thinking environment.

  • CRM Device Management:
  • Independently following up all CRM devices (including remote monitoring).
  • Reprogramming devices in line with national and local guidelines.
  • Supporting implantation of pacemakers, ICDs (including S-ICDs), CRT devices, and Conduction System Pacing.
  • Service Development & Leadership:
  • Taking overall responsibility for the CRM service including service development and daily operations, including stock management, data entry/submission, and manufacturer advisories.
  • Providing training to junior team members and the wider MDT.
  • Providing professional development including appraisal and clinical supervision.
  • Deputising for the Head of CIU.
  • Coronary Angiography & Intervention:
  • Participating in procedures, including a Primary PCI service during normal hours and pacemaker implantation.
  • Professional Development:
  • Managing your own learning and staying up to date with emerging evidence and national guidance, with full support from the Trust.
  • Improving leadership capabilities through learning and coaching opportunities.

About You

  • Fully Qualified and Accredited: BHRS (British Heart Rhythm Society) or IBHRE (International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners) accreditation is essential.

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of formal training/qualifications equivalent to Healthcare Scientist Practitioner degree level; including BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology
  • BHRS, IBHRE or EHRA accreditation
  • ILS certification
  • Evidence of Leadership/Management training
Desirable criteria
  • RCCP/AHCS registration
  • Demonstration of academic interest

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of clinical leadership in CRM
  • Significant experience across a broad range of cardiac diagnostic tests and procedures
  • Experience of service development
  • Experience of delivering training and clinical supervision in CRM
  • Experience of appraisal and performance management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working as departmental lead for CRM service
  • Experience of budget responsibility
  • Experience of cost improvement projects
  • Experience of operational departmental management
  • Experience of tender and procurement processes
  • Experience submitting national audit datasets

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Expert knowledge of CRM
  • Specialist knowledge of non-invasive cardiology investigations
  • Ability to provide clinical leadership when clinical situations demand escalation and/or immediate management
  • Maintenance of professional accreditation
