Assistant Management Accountant

Job Title: Assistant Management Accountant
Responsible To: Financial Controller – Waste
Location/Area: 3-5 Greyfriars Business Park, Frank Foley Way, Stafford, ST16 2ST

Basic Salary + Bonus: Competitive salary plus bonus earning potential

THIS IS A FULL-TIME PERMANENT POSITION WITH THE OFFER OF FULL STUDY SUPPORT

Enovert is one of the UK’s leading providers of waste management services. Our primary operations include 7 operational landfill sites, 3 composting facilities and 2 waste transfer stations across which Enovert manages in excess of 2.3 million tonnes of waste per annum.

Enovert is also a significant generator of renewable energy, primarily based on the extraction of gas from our landfill sites. Enovert’s sites produce approximately 194 GWh of electricity each year – enough electricity to power 75,000 homes.

Enovert also provide specialist services for the management and aftercare of landfill sites including site environmental engineering, environmental monitoring, site restoration, landfill gas management and utilisation plus the development of closed sites for green space and renewable energy projects.

Our Finance Team supports all areas of the business and currently has a need to recruit an Assistant Management Accountant to join our established team.

The Assistant Management Accountant role within Enovert plays a critical role in helping to provide both accounting and financial analysis support to the Financial Controller responsible for the Waste sector of the business.

Key Responsibilities: To conduct Enovert North month end variance analysis, and to provide commentary support

Producing accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliations e.g. key accruals/wages and journal postings

To take ownership of accrual and prepayments covering two entities, calculated in accordance with underlying cost, and operational and meter reading data
Provide insightful analysis and narrative for key energy related direct costs, covering power, fuel, and leachate treatment, as part of carbon reduction plans, and site management activities
Analysis of waste tickets and identification of unusual transactions
Process owner for waste rating and royalties, ensuring payments are made in accordance with established agreements and volume data
Restoration volume monitoring for HMRC compliance
Conduct bank reconciliations
To aide FC/MA with month/quarter/year end preparation and ad-hoc audit requirements
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls
Always demonstrating a good understanding of the financial position of the organisation
Recommending and implementing process improvements

Supporting ad-hoc projects

Skills and Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role is essential

Qualified or near completion of AAT qualification or equivalent qualification is essential, with a desire to continue study towards CIMA qualification
Prior experience of the waste/energy industry is desirable
Proven experience and a good working knowledge of Excel to intermediate level is essential
Proven experience and a good working knowledge of accounting software, Access Dimensions experience is advantageous but not essential
Proven ability to organise and prioritise your own workload to achieve deadlines across multifunctional areas
Ability to provide insightful explanations for variance analysis and commentary
Ability to analyse and interpret data for non-finance people
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
High level of accuracy and excellent attention to detail
Able to develop relationships and communicate with stakeholders at all levels, and challenge where necessary

Ability to work with a degree of autonomy and self-regulation and with a hands-on proactive approach, a ‘can do’ attitude, and a willingness to new learn new skills

Ability to produce timely and accurate information in a pressurised environment
