A Vacancy at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

We are looking for a band 2/3 Healthcare support worker to work a part time 28.5 Hrs per week to work within our large Outpatients Department which is part of the West Hertforshire NHS Trust Teaching Hospital based at St Albans Hospital ( but may need to work across other sites in the Trust – Watford General Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital.

We are looking for an individuals who is extremely hard working, patient focused, who can lead the Team to deliver the best care to our patients.

You need to be a motivated, enthusiastic, organised and a knowledgeable leader who enjoys working within a large Team of all Bands - including Student Nurses of all levels.

We are unique in the respect that we cover the following specialties:-
  • Urology / Gynecology/ Pain/ Endocrine/ Dermatology/ Orthopedic /Respiratory/ Rheumatology/ Oncology/ Breast Care/Gastroenterology/General Surgery/ Cardiology/ pain Clinical Psychology/ Fertility / Pain and plastics.

We currently provide a 5 day service but occasionally run clinics at the weekend. Nursing staff working hours are from 08:.00 - 18:00 Hrs.

Days will be allocated over Monday – Friday .

Interviews will take place on the 8th February 2024
  • To assist with patients who are attending the Outpatients Department ensuring they receive excellent service and patient-centred care.
  • Supporting patients who are on stretchers whilst they are in the Department.
  • Taking and accurately recording base line observations from patients.
  • Entering all patient information on CERNER (Electronic Patient Record) EPR system.
  • To be confident and competent in accessing and retrieving information from the Cerner Patient Electronic System in the preparation and running of clinics.
  • Assisting with minor procedures in a variety of clinics.
  • Support the completion of local audits.
  • To keep patients and their next of kin / carer updated of any delays within the clinics
  • Ensure any problems or incidents are documented and escalated as necessary and in line with Trust policy.
  • To ensure the requirement for a chaperone for a patient is met in line with Trust policy
  • To ensure translators are arranged if required in advance of the clinic in line with Trust policy.

General duties:
  • Report to the Outpatient Sister/Nurse in Charge all incidents that occur to patients, staff or visitors within the Outpatients Department and ensure they are recorded on the DATIX system.
  • To work as a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
