Are you a dedicated midwife passionate about community care? Our new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) has now opened its doors and we are seeking experienced community midwives to join us at one of our 3 bespoke community bases!

Here at SWB we pride ourselves on the way we support and nurture our colleagues and how we value progression for all of our midwives. Our community midwives operate in small families, in line with best practice as advocated by Better Births, this means they give excellent care, whilst having room to grow.

We are also currently offering a financial incentive for midwives in Community Midwifery. A lump sum payment of £1,000 pro-rata is payable on completion of 12 months as a band 5/6 Community Midwife with a further £1,000 pro-rata payable at the end of year 2 and year 3 !

Main duties of the job

Experience of community based midwifery care is required to provide all aspects of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to pregnant people and their families in the Sandwell and West Birmingham area.

Successful candidates will be the named midwife for an identified caseload of women attached to a GP surgery and provide all routine care as per NICE guidelines antenatally and postnatally.

Some intrapartum care required within a traditional on call system.

You will be part of a supportive team providing care to a diverse community with links to other family services such as family support workers, Specialist Midwives, health visitors and children's centres.

Being a team player with excellent organisational skills is essential whilst also being able to work autonomously where required.

Training can be provided for up skilling (if required) and if you have particular interest in developing an area of your practice we will endeavor to accommodate this.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife on part 2 of the NMC professional register
  • Degree/diploma relevant to speciality
  • Mentor/assessor training or willing to work towards
Desirable criteria
  • Examination of the newborn course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post registration experience in continuous clinical practice
  • Successfully completed a preceptorship programme
  • Evidence of working in all areas of midwifery
  • Evidence of well documented and up to date CPD portfolio
  • Ability to work autonomously within professional and Trusts Guidelines
  • Experience/evidence of coordinating a maternity ward/clinical/community area
  • Able to take the professional lead in caring for low risk women
  • Counselling skills
