Job overview
We are looking to expand the radiographic reporting team in our Trust with the addition of one reporting radiographer with postgraduate qualification in image interpretation.
This will be a full time reporting and rotational post at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital.
Ideally, the successful candidate should have extensive experience of reporting plain film images in a hospital environment.
As a band 7 radiographer, you will be able to lead a team in the ED and general radiology departments.
This role involves the training and supervision of junior radiographers and students as well as taking a lead role in audits and service improvement initiatives that are relevant to the Imaging Department.
The department has implemented a shift working system. Flexible working and participation in the 7-day service will be expected.
Hybrid working with the use of a home reporting station will be available on completion of a probationary period and successful completion of reporting audit as per RCR guidance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To be accountable for monitoring own standards of work and that of others, improving the quality of clinical service provision.
To provide an agreed volume of reporting ensuring that any urgent reports are brought to the attention of the referring clinician and acted upon in patients’ best interests.
To take responsibility for reporting lists to ensure that local KPIs can be maintained.
To determine the need for additional examinations based on clinical presentation and image appearances and, where appropriate, refer patients for other supplementary investigations in line with the established care pathways.
To communicate results/findings to the referring clinician providing well rationalised evidence based advice and/or recommendations.
To provide assistance and guidance to other staff with technical issues or other problems that may arise.
To undertake clinical duties in imaging. To produce high quality images whilst maintaining the highest standards of patient care at all times.
To act as the Senior Radiographer in charge of the department when on clinical duties. To act as supervisor to all staff in the area of work
To attend professional training/development courses as appropriate and provide appropriate feedback that would benefit or enhance the service.
To authorise exposures for referrals for primary imaging, ensuring that the procedure is justified from the clinical information given on request forms, and in line with Departmental Authorisation guidelines. This may require the analysis of complex situations, impacting on patient management.
To use relevant knowledge, training and experience to produce high quality images for a full range of general imaging procedures during clinical imaging sessions.
To prioritise own workload and organise and perform own work effectively and efficiently.
Act as a point of advice for referring medical staff.
To participate in the “Red Dot” system to aid the prompt diagnosis and reduce the risks associated with the interpretation of radiographs.
To ensure the highest standards of patient care are maintained at all times.
To provide an agreed volume of reporting ensuring that any urgent reports are brought to the attention of the referring clinician and acted upon in patients’ best interests.
To take responsibility for reporting lists to ensure that local KPI’s can be maintained.
Review all images, giving advice on any additional imaging procedures required to answer incidental findings. Ensure that urgent findings are communicated to the appropriate clinician and the patient directed accordingly.
To develop own skills and knowledge in all relevant area of practice and help in the development of others.
To undergo annual appraisal in order to identify training needs and personal development in line with the requirements and development of the service.
To undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) as identified in Personal Development Plan and satisfy the requirements of the Health Professional Council Registration.
To attend all mandatory training sessions and complete all mandatory e-learning modules as required by the Trust.
To assist in the induction and preceptorship of Radiographers.
To assist with the training and supervision of Radiographers, Radiology Assistants, Student Radiographers and Assistant Practitioners in various work areas.
To assist with the practical training and clinical supervision of Student Radiographers in various work areas, and to carry out the assessment of competence of student radiographers following suitable training and practical experience.
To attend relevant training courses and CPD associated to the role.
To develop and deliver CPD sessions relevant to your area of expertise.
To act as a mentor and assist with the training of radiographers undertaking formal training to report within area of specialist practice.
Person specification
Education & Qualification
Essential criteria- BSc Radiography (Hons) or Diploma of College of Radiographers (or equivalent)
- HCPC Registered
- Up to date CPD file
- Post graduate reporting qualification in axial and appendicular, trauma and non-trauma plain film studies
- Post graduate reporting qualification in Chest Interpretation
Experience
Essential criteria- 2 years post graduate experience in reporting and must have experience of reporting X-rays to a high level in an NHS hospital environment.
- Extensive experience of working in an acute hospital
- Extensive experience in general radiographic practice
- Experience working with undergraduate and post-graduate students.
- Extensive experience within the NHS
