Do you have a passion for working with people experiencing complex mental health issues, including Disordered Eating? We are delighted to advertise this senior Psychologist/Psychotherapist post, who will be part of our Primary Care Psychological Therapies team and will take a lead on our new Disordered Eating Pathway.This new pathway aims to support people with disordered eating who may not meet the criteria for specialist ED services. The pathway provides guided self-help, 1:1 psychological therapy and groups.
The Primary Care Psychological Therapies Team works with people in the gaps between NHS Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT) and community mental health services. We work closely with primary care colleagues and the wider MDT as part of our new transformed model of mental health care.The postholder will work alongside psychological therapists and other colleagues from the NHS and a range of third sector partners.
The post holder will be part of a therapy team of 17 staff, including two band 7 CBT psychotherapists who are specifically trained in CBT-ED. You will work with the service lead to develop and maintain the Disordered Eating Pathway and to ensure appropriate mechanisms for clinical governance and safety are in place.The role involves direct assessment and 1:1 therapy, group facilitation, as well as joint working, training and supervision for the wider MDT.
Main duties of the job
To provide an appropriately qualified and accredited psychology/psychotherapy service to service users and carers aged 17+. To work autonomously, with appropriate supervision, making independent decisions and using support appropriately. To provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and therapy.To offer advice and consultation on service users’ psychological care to clinical colleagues and to other, non-professional carers. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service, following trust policies and procedures.
To utilise research skills for audit, service development and research within the service area. To provide a key role in service development and governance of the Disordered Eating Pathway.
- Provide therapeutic input (individual and group) for people presenting with complex needs. Clients may present with complex trauma, co-occurring physical, social and mental health issues and/or neurodiversity-related issues, requiring a flexible, multi-modal approach.
- Work proactively to ensure access for people from diverse cultures and communities, to promote an inclusive, adaptive, culturally sensitive approach.
- Provide psychological consultation and supervision to primary care staff, including GPs and other allied professionals.
- Develop and support the services to embed a psychologically informed model of care.

Fixed Term Contracts for existing NHS Employees – temporary contracts for employees of LYPFT, or colleagues joining from another NHS Trust, will be offered on a secondment basis wherever possible. In the event this is not possible, an FTC would be issued and this would require a break in service of two weeks.
The purpose of a temporary is role could be for maternity cover, temporary funding or some other reason. At the end of which the need for the temporary work will cease. Temporary roles can stop, be extended and/or made permanent at any point during the period of work.Should the role become permanent then the post-holder will be informed of the process to be followed to convert the position to a permanent one.
