Overview

Our cemetery team provides expert services to our local communities, to make sure that every customer receives the best possible service from us at an emotionally charged time. From building relationships with funeral directors and families to coordinating burial services and memorial commemorations, this is a busy and rewarding role, where you’ll see the impact of your work in front of you.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

About the role

As a Cemeteries Administrator, you will provide administrative support across our six cemeteries and memorial gardens, helping to ensure that the highest standards of care are delivered to our customers. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Responding to enquiries from customers, families and funeral directors
  • Taking bookings for burial and interment services and facilitating memorial sales
  • Completing and maintaining statutory records and plans
  • Attending burials to oversee contractors working on our cemetery sites
  • Managing payments and invoicing ensuring that correct fees are applied
  • Processing applications for burial plots and memorials
Career development is something we take seriously at Bucks; we love nothing more than seeing our colleagues grow with us, with many members of the team progressing quickly as they gain more experience and responsibility within their specialist area.
We’re committed to building an exceptional cemeteries team, utilising our colleagues’ talent, and making the most of what they have to offer. With a strong and supportive management team behind you, you’ll be encouraged to develop your skills in areas of interest to you.

You’ll also have access to further training with the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management to broaden your knowledge and support your career with us.

Fixed

As a ‘fixed’ worker, you’ll spend most of your time in the same location, which will likely be a fixed office or location where your role is performed. Typically, you’ll be based in the same location as the rest of your team, because you provide a particular service from that fixed location or need access to information there.

About you

You’ll come to us with relevant experience of working as part of a team to deliver a high level of customer service, used to working to deadlines and able to prioritise your work. You will have an eye for detail and be confident using computer systems, recording information and checking payments.

You’ll be comfortable working in a customer facing role and will have good communication and interpersonal skills to work with colleagues, contractors and customers. Above all, you’ll be a caring and sensitive individual, with the ability to communicate effectively with families, as you guide them through a particularly difficult and challenging time.

Our customers are at the heart of what we do so an adaptable, forward-thinking and 'can-do' attitude is necessary to meet the needs of our communities.

Other information

Our cemetery sites and memorial gardens are peaceful places for families to remember their loved ones and the grade one listed memorial gardens at Stoke Poges is a place of great beauty and contemplation. You’ll be working from sites based at Stoke Poges Memorial Gardens, Penn Road Cemetery and Chilterns Crematorium and will travel to cemeteries in Chiltern and South Buckinghamshire to meet the needs of our customers.
