This is an excellent opportunity to be a part of delivering pharmacy services within a prison, in partnership with the Prison Lead Pharmacist and His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Services (HMPPS). Opened in February 2017 this Category C male training prison, with a remand facility, has a capacity of 2,106.

Within the healthcare facility there is a fully automated pharmacy department.

Main duties of the job

Working as a Pharmacy Assistant your duties will include:

  • ordering of medication for the pharmacy
  • ordering and stocking of the pharmacy with consumables
  • receiving deliveries to pharmacy
  • supply of medication to dispensaries in the houseblocks
  • receptionist duties
  • administration duties

Previous experience in pharmacy work is not necessary as training will be given but a good standard of numeracy and literacy will be expected.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy services or willingness to undertake and achieve NVQ Level 2 within 12 months of appointment.

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Pharmacy experience Prison experience.
To work in the UK, all candidates who are not UK or Republic of Ireland (RoI) nationals require sponsorship to obtain either a Health and Care visa or Skilled Worker visa, unless you have permission to work via another route. Non UK / RoI candidates wishing to apply should self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship by visiting Work in the UK.
