This is an ideal opportunity for you to start your career in Pharmacy, developing your knowledge and experience in our dynamic and diverse team.

Main duties of the job

This is a great role to start your career as a Pharmacy Assistant, as you’ll receive all the training and support you need to be your best. You’ll support Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians by providing supervised pharmacy services, including dispensing of medicines, replenishing and maintaining ward stocks and patients’ own medicines.

Working under supervision at all times, you’ll also work on the inpatient hatch receiving prescriptions, deal with routine enquiries from patients and hospital staff, maintain drug stocks, assemble prescriptions, and check and receive deliveries using Pharmacy systems.

The department rota, in which you’ll participate, will include late nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.

To rotate though all areas of the technical service, in particular wards and the Inpatient Dispensary.

Participate in patient centered care at ward level.

Ensure that medicines are available when needed.

Maintain accurate stocks.

Provide customer service to healthcare professionals at the Inpatient Hatch.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE’S or equivalent (C or above) in Maths and English
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Services or equivalent GPhC approved qualification or course
  • GCSE Science (dual award) or equivalent grade C or above

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • IT literate with a basic understanding of software eg Microsoft office, emails etc
  • An understanding of the role of a Pharmacy Assistant
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy Software EMIS, JAC, HIVE
  • Experience of using automated dispensing systems

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience in a public sector organisation or health care setting
  • Knowledge of dealing with members of the public, healthcare professionals, interaction with patients and carers
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of product selection, stock maintenance
  • Customer service experience
