CLINICAL RESPONSIBILTIES/COMPETENCIES Undertake a comprehensive assessment of care needs and the development implementation and evaluation of family centred programmes of care and the setting of standards. Develop a clinical expertise in all aspects of care within area of work, be competent in the administration of intravenous and peripheral chemotherapy.
Ensure that all planned care is evidence based/best practice. Monitor and develop standards of nursing care within the Clinical Governance Framework. Ensure the Trust policies and procedures are understood and adhered to, providing guidelines for junior staff whenever necessary.
Demonstrates professional accountability underpinned by the rules of eh NMC, ensuring that these are applied consistently. Provide effective communication to ensure a cohesive team approach to the family centred areas. Provide all grades of staff with the opportunity to generate new ideas for the improvement of the services provided.
Continuously develop clinical role to ensure effective care is delivered within specialised areas of work, as determined by the unit needs. MANAGEMENT DUTIES: Demonstrate the ability to act up for the Ward Manager in their absence. Counsel, appraise and give guidance and support as required.
Ensure that the trust management policies and procedures are understood and followed. Undertake delegated responsibility for specific areas of operational management. EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Participate in pre and post registration training programmes and ensures a good learning environment within area of work.
Update personal knowledge by attending and participating in seminars and In Service Training sessions to maintain skills and satisfy personal development record. Participate in staff development and performance review systems. RESEARCH: Promotes evidence practice by:- Disseminate relevant research findings to staff.
Encouraging and acting as a resource person for staff who are interested in undertaking research projects. Advising and assisting with writing evidence based nursing standards, procedures and policies. QUALITY ASSURANCE: Assist in setting, maintaining and monitoring standards of care which support the Trust and peer review.

Facilitate and co-ordinate the introduction of Quality Assurance initiatives in line with Clinical Governance. Maintain a healthy, safe and productive work environment.
